Travel Opportunities at Houston Academy
At Houston Academy, we believe that learning extends beyond the classroom, and our extensive travel opportunities and field trips set us apart from other schools. Across all divisions—from Preschool to Upper School—our students engage in meaningful and exciting experiences that enhance their education, broaden their perspectives, and create lasting memories.
Short Term: A Unique Travel Experience

One of the most distinctive aspects of Houston Academy’s travel program is Short Term, a week-long experiential learning opportunity held each March before Spring Break. Short Term allows students in different grade levels to embark on specialized trips tailored to their age and academic interests.

Seniors embark on a 10-day international trip to Europe, where they immerse themselves in history, culture, and global perspectives. This capstone experience serves as a celebration of their time at Houston Academy and offers unforgettable educational experiences.
Freshmen and Sophomores travel to Boston, where they explore the city's rich historical and educational landscape, visiting landmarks, museums, and prestigious universities such as Harvard and MIT.
Juniors participate in local job shadowing experiences, where they spend time in professional workplaces, gaining real-world exposure to careers in medicine, law, business, engineering, and more. This hands-on approach allows students to explore their interests and prepare for their future endeavors.
Field Trips Across All Divisions

Throughout the academic year, students participate in a wide variety of field trips that enrich their learning. Preschool and Lower School students take trips to places such as fire stations, police departments, doctor and dental offices, and local museums, providing them with real-world experiences that connect to their curriculum. These early adventures help spark curiosity, build confidence, and introduce young learners to the community around them.

In Middle School, field trips expand to include destinations such as state parks, science centers, historical sites, and even theme parks. These experiences help students deepen their understanding of classroom concepts while also promoting teamwork and social development. Our students have opportunities to participate in hands-on learning activities, such as environmental studies, historical reenactments, and STEM-based workshops, that make subjects come to life.
Upper School students experience even more advanced travel opportunities, with visits to universities, research labs, and cultural institutions. These trips expose them to higher education, potential career paths, and global perspectives. Whether touring a major university’s campus, attending leadership conferences, or exploring historical landmarks, our students gain valuable insights that help prepare them for their future academic and professional journeys.
Overnight and Extended Trips

In addition to Short Term, Houston Academy students have the opportunity to embark on various overnight and extended trips throughout the year. Middle and Upper School students may travel to Florida for marine biology excursions, leadership retreats, or athletic competitions. Other extended trips include academic competitions, band and choir performances, and national conventions.
