Letter from the
Head of School
Welcome to Houston Academy! At Houston Academy, we are proud to be the academic school of choice in the Wiregrass — a distinction built on more than fifty years of academic excellence and character education. However, what truly sets us apart is not just our strong academics or outstanding programs, it’s the love that defines our community.
When my family made the decision to relocate to Dothan and join the Houston Academy family seven years ago, it was because we believed we would love living in Southeast Alabama and that our daughters would love attending HA. We were right on both counts. This school is more than a place of learning; it’s a place where people belong.
At Houston Academy, we love to learn, to explore, and to grow. We challenge students to work hard, have fun, and be kind — recognizing that knowledge must always be guided by character and values. We hold students to high expectations while providing them with the support, encouragement, and care they need to meet and exceed those expectations.
Our mission extends beyond academic achievement. It’s about developing good scholars, responsible citizens, and compassionate leaders for a global, connected world. Our vibrant campus, dedicated faculty and staff, and diverse opportunities in academics, arts, and athletics reflect that commitment every day.
We would love to welcome you to our campus and share the heart of Houston Academy with you — not just the place where we learn, but the place where we belong. Go Raiders!
Warmly,
Dr. Vince Janney, Head of School
