Preschool Overview and Curriculum
At Houston Academy, our Preschool program lays the essential groundwork for a lifelong love of learning. Serving children in 3P, 4P, and 5K, our nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment is designed to help each child grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The Preschool day runs Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM, providing a consistent and enriching half-day schedule filled with purposeful play, foundational instruction, and caring guidance.
Early Learning Foundations
Our Preschool curriculum is carefully structured to build upon each year of growth:
3P (Three-Year-Old Preschool)


Focuses on basic readiness skills including:

Fine and gross motor development
Introduces the Handwriting Without Tears program in a fun, hands-on way to build pre-writing skills.



4P (Four-Year-Old Preschool)



Expands readiness with an emphasis on:

Development of positive self-concept and confidence
Continues Handwriting Without Tears and adds the Benchmark Ready to Advance program to build foundational literacy and language skills through engaging stories and interactive lessons.



5K (Kindergarten)


Prepares students for a successful transition to Lower School by focusing on:

Listening, speaking, and early reading skills

Introduction to structured classroom routines and academic independence

Integrates Math in Focus to introduce early problem-solving and mathematical reasoning
Continues the use of Handwriting Without Tears to strengthen writing fluency and pencil control.




Enrichment & Specials
Houston Academy believes in educating the whole child. Our Preschool students benefit from a vibrant enrichment program tailored to their age and stage:

Mayfair – A fun-filled spring celebration with games, treats, and family-friendly activities.
Grandparents Day – A heartwarming event where students showcase their learning and spend special time with their grandparents on campus.
Christmas Sing-a-Long – A joyful musical celebration of the holiday season, filled with festive songs and smiling faces.
3P Highlights
Thanksgiving Feast – A heartwarming celebration where students share in a festive meal and reflect on gratitude.
Kite Day with the 4th Grade – A beloved buddy event where our youngest and oldest Lower School students pair up for a day of flying kites and building friendships.
4P Highlights
Chinese New Year Parade – A colorful and musical celebration of culture and tradition, complete with costumes and student-made instruments.
Field Trip to Wiregrass Public Safety Center – A hands-on learning experience that introduces children to local heroes and community helpers.
5K Highlights
Mother’s Day Tea and Hoedown – A sweet celebration of moms featuring songs, dancing, and special treats.
100th Day of School Hat Day – A milestone celebration where students design and wear their own creative “100 Day” hats.
"Barnyard Moosical" End-of-Year Performance – A delightful musical theater experience where students showcase their talents on stage.
Walking Field Trip to Westgate Library – A short but exciting outing that encourages literacy and community engagement.
Field Trip to the Pumpkin Patch – A seasonal adventure where students explore fall traditions, nature, and hands-on learning.
