Located in the Dove Center, the library offers our students opportunities to read, research, and learn through online databases as well as print materials. HA is proud to house its collection of over 23,000 volumes, which includes fiction and non-fiction, for students in Preschool, Lower School, and Upper School. All resources encourage students to select and use materials for specific assignments as well as for free, voluntary reading.

The Destiny Library Software program assists students in locating the correct materials for their needs. This software also provides additional online links to resources for students to use. Many other features are available with the Destiny Library Software program that are beneficial to students and that encourage reading and learning. This program is web based and available from
any Internet connection.

For the Lower School, the Houston Academy library sponsors a Scholastic School Book Fair each year. Excellent selections of fiction and non-fiction are available for purchase. The Houston Academy Birthday Book Club, a Houston Academy tradition, is another reading opportunity offered by the Friends of the Library.

Areas are available for individual and group study. Charging stations are available for MacBooks, and Dell desktops are also available for the library catalog search. Printing and copy services are also available.

Our goal is to support the Houston Academy Mission as we assist in meeting the learning needs of our students. Please visit the attractive setting of Taylor Malone Houston Academy Library.

Accelerated Reader Program

The Library accommodates grades 1-6 in meeting their Accelerated Reader program goals with thousands of AR designated books. Designed to improve reading skills, the AR tests are taken after a student reads a particular book on a specific reading level.

The Accelerated Reading database is available via the Library’s webpage, and you can search for books by title, author, book level needed, and many other ways to find exactly what you are looking for.
