Facilities

Houston Academy’s recently-renovated seven-building campus features several new and improved areas, including The Elizabeth Dove Cook Grand Hall and Student Life Center (EDC), a multi-use facility with auditorium-style seating for over 300 patrons. The Grand Hall houses the Roben and Lisbeth Ash Stage for the Performing Arts which, when combined with the Lewis M. Carter IV AV Booth, provides a state-of-the-art venue where students produce professional-level concerts and theatrical events. The auditorium-style seating in the Grand Hall is retractable, allowing the space to double as a lunch room large enough to accommodate any of the institution’s three schools. The EDC also houses food service facilities, a common area for students, and a hall of fame honoring exemplary members of the HA community.

HA is a proud college preparatory institution with academic facilities to match. The campus features 54 classrooms—most of which are new or recently renovated—including two science, technology, engineering, arts and math (STEAM) labs for the lower and middle schools and several specialized labs for upper school science courses like chemistry and biology. The journey to a successful college career can begin as early as age three in HA’s recently updated seven-classroom preschool. Younger students develop a love of reading in the Taylor and Malone Lower School Library and are introduced to the arts in dedicated lower school music and art rooms. Older students interested in the arts are served by dedicated, modern spaces for art, band, and choir.

As athletics are a significant part of the HA experience, the campus includes Killingsworth Gym housing Coach Ron Watson CourtHeersink Gym, a soccer/football/baseball field and a separate, comprehensive weightlifting, fitness, and conditioning facility for students, faculty, and alumni known as The Field House. Students participating in sports for which HA lacks facilities, such as swimming, are served at Dothan’s Westgate Park which is within a quarter mile of campus.

Finally, though smaller than most university campuses, HA’s meticulously-cared-for grounds exude an air of academia rivaling that of many institutions of higher education. The grounds comprise approximately 15 acres that include lush landscaping, an amphitheater for outdoor shows and activities, a synthetic turf play area, an outdoor basketball court, a preschool playground, and multiple open green spaces including the athletic field. The grounds are secured behind a seven-foot security fence with electronic key-card access required for exterior gates and doors.
