Raider of the Quarter – Upper School
Raider of the Quarter (COOPER LEE)
Good afternoon. My name is Cooper Lee and I am a member of the NJHS Executive Team. To further recognize students’ accomplishments in our community, the National Junior Honor Society is implementing a “Raider of the Quarter” program, honoring students’ success inside and outside of the classroom. At the end of each Quarter, NJHS will honor four Middle and Upper School student that demonstrates one or more of the four pillars of NJHS: scholarship, service, leadership, and citizenship. The recipients of this award have been nominated and voted on by the faculty at Houston Academy and today we will honor those students. I would like to introduce sophomores Jake McDonald and Ella Boyd and freshmen Natalie Janney and Mac Edge that will assist me in introducing the recipients of the NJHS Students of the Quarter.
Grade 9: Vaishnavi Chennareddy
NJHS is proud to recognize Vaishnavi Chennareddy as the Freshman NJHS Raider of the Quarter. Vaishnavi earned the recognition for being an academically consistent student. She always strives to do her best in everything that she attempts and usually manages to do so. Her kind heart brings joy to everyone she is around. Vaishnavi never has a bad day and is nice to everyone she encounters. Vaishnavi is a great role model, an excellent artist and musician, and an all around wonderful person. Congratulations Vaishnavi!
Gunnar Smith- 10th Grade
NJHS is proud to recognize Gunnar Smith as the NJHS Sophomore Raider of the Quarter. Gunnar earned the recognition for his generosity and respect. Gunnar demonstrates the 4 pillars of the National Junior Honor Society. In Mr. Brown’s words, “ Gunnar is an active member of HA’s cross country team and during practice, he is always helpful to the younger kids. Gunnar is very prompt and always on time. He never complains in the classroom or during his sports practices. Gunnar wants to successful in anything and everything he does. He also is very polite and respectful to his classmates and teachers.” This shows Gunnar is a kind and intelligent person. Gunnar shows respect everyday he is on campus. Congratulations Gunnar!
Anna Grace Holland – 11th grade
Anna Grace Holland has been selected for the first ever junior class Raider of the Quarter. She noticeably exemplifies the National Honor Society four pillars. In Mrs. Dean’s words, “I first got to know Anna Grace through SGA last year. Anna Grace always volunteered to help out on numerous committees and activities. She is always positive and has a great attitude. I have also witnessed her helping out younger students. I believe she is a wonderful role model. This year I have the opportunity to teach Anna Grace in Anatomy. She is a courteous student who always tries her best and consistently does her best in class. She helps others when needed in class as well.” Additionally, Anna Grace participates in FCA, softball, and basketball. Congratulations Anna Grace!
Mary Grace Reeves – 12th grade
NJHS is proud to recognize Mary Grace Reeves as the NJHS Raider of the Quarter for the 12th grade. She earned this recognition for exemplifying what it means to be kind and work hard. On multiple occasions, Mary Grace has invited people sitting alone at lunch to join her and she is always kind to everyone. She also works hard in the classroom and keeps a positive attitude in all situations. Mary Grace is always determined to do her best and strives to be inclusive in her actions. She isn’t afraid to speak her mind and will stand up for others when needed. Mary Grace is a Raiderette as well as a Raider Ambassador and she does lots of service throughout the year. Congratulations Mary Grace!
Childhood Cancer Presentation: Natalie Janney
Thank you and congratulations to all of the students that were recognized today as NJHS Raiders of the Quarter. In addition to this initiative to promote scholarship, NJHS has been working to promote Childhood Cancer awareness during the month of September. To that end, NJHS is happy to invite Mrs. Evans, the mother of Thomas Evans, a grade six student that is fighting a battle against cancer to the podium to receive a donation of 300$ to assist and further research at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital, the site where Thomas receives his treatments.

Aurie Anne Hewes-5th Grade- Mac Edge
NJHS is proud to recognize Aurie Anne Hewes as the NJHS Grade 5 Raider of the Quarter. Aurie earned the recognition for her kindness and generosity in the classroom. Her actions in the classroom exemplify the pillars of the National Junior Honor Society. Her teacher, Mrs. Pineda stated, “Aurie is the most generous person that I have encountered at HA. She never hesitates to help her teachers or her classmates. She is respectful to everyone and most importantly, she always has a mile to offer. I am so lucky to have her in my class.” As her teachers have said, Aurie shows everyone respect in everything she does. She is always smiling and tries to help everyone one in her class. This is why she was chosen as the Raider of the Quarter. Congratulations Aurie!
Claire Roberson – 6th grade
Claire Roberson had been selected as the 6th grade Raider of the Quarter. Teachers noticed some of Claire’s classroom and personality traits that clearly demonstrate the National Junior Honor Society four pillars. In Mrs. Blumberg’s words, “Claire Roberson exemplifies the qualities of the ‘NJHS Raider of the Quarter’ because she is consistently prompt, reliable and dependable. Not only is she always on time for class, she is also prepared and you can depend on Claire. Claire is always attentive in class and listens to what is being said and she is also a very skilled artist. Based on these three commendable qualities amongst others, Claire Roberson was nominated and selected as the NJHS Raider of the Month.” Congratulations Claire!
Erin Potter – 7th grade
NJHS is proud to recognize Erin Potter as the NJHS Grade 7 Raider of the Quarter for the 7th grade. Erin earned this recognition for being an exceptional student and leader. In her classes, she always gives 110% and strives to do better than her best. Erin also has a positive attitude no matter what and volunteers to help in almost every situation. She always tries to help others and treats everyone with kindness, even if she gets no recognition for her actions. Erin participates in many extracurricular activities, including marching band, Troy community band, and this year’s middle school musical Shrek Jr. Congratulations Erin!
Nadia Soifer – 8th grade (Natalie Janney)
NJHS is proud to recognize Nadia Soifer as the NJHS Grade 8 Raider of the Quarter for the 8th grade. Nadia earned this recognition for her beautiful personality. She always has a smile on her face and always respectful to the teachers and students around her. Nadia is punctual, and treats everyone with care. She tries her hardest in the classes she takes. Nadia is a well-rounded student who makes excellent grades. She is kind to her friends, and even strangers. Congratulations Nadia Soifer!
