PTO: The Year in Review

May 31, 2017

Dear HA Family,

It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as the Houston Academy PTO president this year. I would like to thank all of the other officers, committee heads, and volunteers for giving so much of their time and making the year run smoothly. Volunteers are not only vital to the success of PTO and the services that we provide for the school, but they also set a great example of service for our children.

We have had a very successful fundraising year thanks to Raider Retail, Spirit Card sales, merchandise sales, Raider Run, May Fair, and Box Top collections. The funds have been used to make many improvements to our school in addition to the ongoing services that we provide annually. Some of the special projects that we were able to fund were (values rounded):

New middle school lockers – $21,000
Chemistry lab construction – $5000
Fine Arts wireless microphones and headsets – $5800
Projection screen and equipment for library – $4100
Cabinets for microwaves in Dunning Hall – $2500

In addition, money has been pledged to make improvements to the lower school playground and to fund teacher development projects. I am very proud of all that we have accomplished this year.

I would also like to welcome our incoming president, Kelton Morris, and vice-president, Natalie Burleson. I know that they are excited about the upcoming year and will do a great job. Annette Jenne will continue as treasurer, and Tricia Dumas will continue as secretary. We have openings for Spirit Card sales leader and Raider Run committee head. Please let me know if you are interested in either of these positions.

Again, I would like to thank everyone for a successful year and wish you all a fun and safe summer.
