What is Scrip?

Scrip is a way to earn money for Houston Academy and credit towards your tuition by simply purchasing prepaid cards for items you already purchase: gas, groceries, food, entertainment, and clothing. Retailers give a percentage of the value of the gift cards back to the school. Half of this percentage goes directly to the H.A. PTO to help improve our school and classrooms, the other half goes directly back to you in the form of tuition credit. Tuition credits are totaled and applied to your H.A. account twice a year, once in January and again June.

How do I order Scrip?

Scrip order forms will be sent home in your child’s backpack.  We will be placing an order every two weeks.  The order due dates for 2011 will be as follows:  September 1^st, 15^th, 29^nd; October 13^th, 27^th; November 10^th, 16^th; December 1^st, 8^th, 12^th; January 19^th; February 2^nd, 16^th; March 1^st, 15^th; April 5^th; May 3^rd, 17^th. You can return your order forms and checks via your child’s backpack or you can bring them to the front desk.

Scrip orders placed by the above dates will be returned to you in your child’s backpack by the next Thursday. For example our first order of the year will be due September 1st and will be returned to you by September 8th. If you prefer not to have your order returned through your child’s backpack we will leave it at the front desk to be picked up.

Another way to purchase Scrip is from the Scrip Store. Scrip store will be held on Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. during 2011 on the following dates: August 25^th; September 8^th, 22^nd; October 6^th, 20^th; November 3^rd, 10^th, 17^th; December 1^st, 8^th, 15^th; January 12^th, 26^th; February 9^th, 23^rd; March 8^th, 29^th; April 12^th, 26^th; May 10^th, 24^th. We hold Scrip store hours in the Conference Room.

We have a supply of popular scrip gift cards that we keep on hand.  They are available for pickup during Scrip store hours.

The Scrip box containing the inventory of cards is located in Debbie Bedsole's office. Retailers listed on the Scrip order form in bold are kept in stock and can be purchased any time in Debbie's office.

We will order once a week during November and December for your convenience. We will also have the Scrip Store weekly in November and December. Start thinking about Christmas ordering.

How Scrip Generates Revenue for H.A.

The Great Lakes Scrip Center acts on our behalf to purchase large amounts of Scrip from grocery stores, department stores, and other retailers. Because the Scrip is purchased with cash up front, the participating retailers offer a substantial discount. H.A. buys the scrip from Great Lakes Scrip Center at a discount, and re-sells the certificates to families like yours at full face value. The discount, from 2 to 15 percent or more, is our revenue. We also purchase Scrip from some of Dothan's local retailers.

How Scrip Helps Reduce Your Tuition Bill

Each family that purchases Scrip in any month will reap the benefit of receiving credit toward their tuition. The family will receive one-half of the profit generated from their orders for the month. Tuition credits are totaled in January and June of each year and appear on your tuition statement.
