How May We Help You?

How May We Help You?

Now in residence in The Dove Building for 10 years, no query, need or request is too small or too large for our Library to serve its patrons—the students, faculty, staff and parents of Houston Academy.  With over 25,000 volumes, periodicals and scholarly journals, along with countless digital resources, the Library is always in a continuous state of improvement and growth.

We offer books with which students may reach their Accelerated Reader goals, as well as an ever-growing collection of new and relevant non-fiction and research materials, along with the newest titles in fiction alongside the classics we all know and love.  Our aim is to make the Library as user-friendly as possible; to let it be a refuge and place of inspiration for all students, so we continue to ask “How may we help you?”

The Library’s collection is chosen using book reviews from professional journals, popular book lists, such as the New York Times Bestsellers, their children’s book list through their adult book list (both fiction and non-fiction), and all award-winning books from Newberry to Caldecott honorees.

Primarily, though, the Library strives to fulfill any request put forth by a student, teacher or parent.

The Library operates on a flexible schedule to accommodate all students in all grades.  Students in 3P through 3rd grade visit the library at least once weekly for story time and to check out books.  Students in all grades may use or visit the Library during class time, study halls, etc., to check-out materials or to have a quiet place to study.

The Library has recently been offering classes on how to conduct research, utilize the automated catalog system, Athena, and especially in the use of the Alabama Virtual Library, a wonderful asset available, for free, to all Alabamians.
